Fauna de Juncal
Fauna of Juncal includes birds, mammals and reptiles.
Studies have documented the presence of 68 species of flora, 10 mammals, 42 birds,
5 reptiles and 1 frog species in the Parque.
The diversity of flora and fauna in the Parque is of particular value since 93 percent of the flora and 98 percent of the fauna are of Chilean origin and 7 species of flora and 5 of fauna are endemic.
At least 14 threatened species of fauna and 2 species of flora have been identified.
In addition 11 species of fauna are protected by the CITES Convention and three migratory
species are protected by the Convention of Migratory Species (CMS).
Parque Andino Juncal provides protection to at least 5 migratory species that use this habitat during the
summer season for reproduction, feeding and refuge.
There are sporadic sitings of guanaco in the upper ranges of the valley’s, fox, lizards and in my personal case, a tarantula.
Three species are endemic to Chile: two reptiles and one mammal.
Many of the species are unique to mountain environments.
Reptile species like the matuasto, lagartija negroverdosa, the lagartija de Fitzgerald; avian species like the condor, perdicitas, perico cordillerano, tórtola cordillerana, picaflor cordillerano, minero cordillerano, dormilonas, pájaro plomo and the jilguero cordillerano; and mammals like the ratoncito andino.
